I offer in person services in Chapel Hill, Durham, Hillsborough, North Raleigh, Cary, Apex, and Morrisville.  I also offer virtual services for those who need or prefer that.

If preferred or needed by the client, I offer virtual services as well.

Insurance in a few states is starting to cover birth and postpartum doulas.  There is no insurance coverage yet for end of life doulas, although this may change with time.

Doulas don’t replace hospice, but complement it and fill in gaps.   Doulas don’t have the same time constraints that hospice often has, and are generaly able to spend more time with clients and their families.

This really varies by family. A doula may come as infrequently as once a week or a few times a
month, or multiple times a week, depending on the family’s needs and resources.

Doulas provide companionship and support, but do not provide hands on assistance like a
nursing assistant or aide would.

No! Much of the support a doula offers can be beneficial for anyone, regardless of their health
status. For example, life review, reminiscence therapy, and legacy work are things that all of us
can benefit from.

An end of life pet doula provides support in thinking about and making decisions about providing humane euthanasia for beloved companion animals. Some of the work is similar – legacy projects, planning for a peaceful and meaningful setting at the end of life, and creating space to grieve and process the loss, both before and after.

It can be challenging for families with children who are losing a pet – it’s often a child’s first experience with death, and parents may be torn between trying to support their child and dealing with their own grief. An end of life doula can assist with planning age-approriate ways to help a child process and understand the loss, and also be available to support the family and if needed stay with the children so the parents can focus on the pet and their own experience at the time of euthanasia.
